I made a spontaneous decision to go to Melbourne so I started to research which restaurants to go to. After I arrived, I found Rice Paper Scissors.Rice Paper Scissors is a restaurant that embraces much-loved Asian street food. This place is not completely vegan but offers a great vegan menu. There are two restaurants, one in the CBD and another in Fitzroy – Melbourne’s vegan capital. I was staying in the CBD so I was about to book a table at their CBD restaurant, but I found out about their Fitzroy location's Vega-station, a 10-course vegan degustation which cost $45 (such a bargain The event happens once a month (only at Fitzroy) and it was luckily on the day after I arrived (it was meant to be)! I got so so excited about my luck being in Melbourne when a special monthly vegan degustation happens, so I rushed to book online (they only take online bookings) and realised it was FULLY BOOKED [censored]!But I did not stop here. Being overly keen, I emailed to ask if there were any last minute cancellations and that I would be happy to come as soon as the restaurant opened at 11:30am which was not peak time. As it was a Saturday morning, I thought that not so many people would want to eat a 10-course vegan degustation so early in the morning, right?  Check out my blog post for full review at: https cookingwithyoshiko.com/vega-station-vegan-only-degustation-at-rice-paper-scissors-in-melbourne/ to read the full review! we had reservations and we're late. then the waitress set us up, told us enthusiastic about what to expect and disappeared. we waited so long, I finally hit another waiter. the drinks were forgotten, the foods were forgotten. nice eating, but disappointed overall.

Food was great, drinks were amazing, service was lovely plus my friend left his phone at the restaurant(we thought he dropped it on the road and were frantically retracing our steps and they managed to track it to my reservation and called me to return it to him, so so grateful for their efforts! :

We went for lunch and had the '5 courses for $59' special. Lots of food. Small plates but very generous servings. We had the ribs, pork belly, pork buns, duck salad and crispy barramundi. Our favourite was the ribs and pork buns. We had booked for 12pm but not necessary as there were plenty of seats. Fabulous friendly service. Delicious south Asian flavours. Highly recommended!

This is the only restaurant in Melbourne I have been to more than twice. It never disappoints. The 5 dish option and splitting between friends always leaves you completely satisfied and an amazing taste of a little bit of everything. Wait staff are always hilarious, timely and up for a good yarn. Must do in Melbourne!

I organise our mid-year staff christmas function at Rice, Paper Scissors - Fitzroy. From the very first enquiry months in advance, to the last drink of the evening, we could not have asked for anything better. Ellie was incredible to deal with, answering all my questions promptly and positively to ensure everything ran perfectly on the evening. Absolutely nothing was too much to ask - Thank you Ellie! On the evening the food was unbelievable - like seriously delicious! The private upstairs dining room was the perfect space and ambiance for our group and the staff were fantastic. We had some pretty obsessive "foodies" in our group, and we couldn't have asked for more. Oh...and it was a good price! Highly recommended!

The dinner for 2 allow choice of 5 dishes for Aus 65. It's in form of tapas. Lamb and Waygu are the two best dishes, though shrimp crackers with mushroom salad is a delight too. Overall fine dining in a casual setting; dishes with surprise and quite a lot of choice.
